“Reiki” (Ray-key) is a generic Japanese word roughly meaning “Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy” and is described in Buddhist texts as a practice that heals the body, mind, and emotions using energy that is present throughout the Universe. Reiki is a powerful, yet gentle system of healing that works to bring balance, healing and lasting relief from dis-ease to all four levels of being; Mental, Emotional, Physical, and Spiritual.

Typical Treatment
During a typical treatment the client lays fully clothed on the table while the practitioner gently touches specific pathway points on the body. The universal energy (ki) automatically begins to flow through practitioners hands. A treatment usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes. The effects are usually profound for the client. It is a soothing and relaxing experience. It is my experience that a treatment brings balance back into our live through a profound sense of re-connection to a deeper state of being.
The beauty of Usui’s gift, Reiki, lies in its simplicity and its lack of intellectual concepts or dogma. The “Usui System of Natural Healing”, as it was originally called, has no theories or dogma, it is simply pure energy that is transmitted to the client. The great value of Reiki lies in the fact that the energy is guided by a Higher “Divine” Intelligence. It knows exactly where to go and how to respond to restrictions in the flow of life force energy (ki). The practitioner does not have to diagnose or consciously direct the flow of this energy. Reiki’s sacred energies automatically brings healing, harmony, and balance to all aspects of the Human experience, be it Physical, Mental, Emotional, or Spiritual.
Brief History of Reiki
Reiki was discovered around the turn of century by Dr. Mikao Usui, a professor of Christian theology in Kyoto, Japan. When Dr. Usui would teach about the miraculous healing’s of Jesus, he often told his students that he believed that teachers such as Jesus and Buddha were in contact with a “transcendent” source of energy. But when his students challenged him to prove his own beliefs, Dr. Usui was not able to. He was so stunned by this question (one that he often wondered about), that he resigned from the University and set out to search out the answers as he promised his students. His search for the truth led him on a long seventeen year journey in which he studied the oldest know texts in Hebrew and Aramaic as well as the Japanese & Chinese Sanskrit sutra’s for clues for the healing that Jesus and Buddha had performed. At the end of his long and arduous journey he discovered (in Indian Sanskrit) one of the most profound discoveries of his and our time, a sacred source of energy the Japanese coined “Reiki”. In a vision, the gift of healing was revealed to Usui and he was empowered to do Reiki in the form we see today.
In this traditional lineage, Reiki has been passed down from Dr. Usui, to Dr. Hyashi, to Madam Takata, (who brought it to the United States). Takata, before her passing in 1980 initiated 21 masters, one of which was Virginia Samdahl, who taught my teacher Joyce Morris. You will get this direct lineage in your training.

Reiki is not taught in the typical manner that other techniques are taught. Reiki is transferred to the student during an a special sacred initiation (ritual) called the “attunement” process by the Master Teacher, in which the student is precisely aligned to receive the energy. The initiation process is a sacred and ancient ritual which opens up latent energy pathways in your body through which Reiki energies can then flow. This process opens the crown, heart, throat and palm chakras to receive the special Reiki energy. For those who are sensitive to the attunement process, this can be a powerful spiritual experience. Once you get it, you have it for life.
First degree allows energy to flow through the practitioners hands by simply touching. It is excellent for massage therapist, health practitioners and lay person alike. In the class you will be initiated, taught how to use the energy, shown specific hand placements, given the history of Reiki and generally what to expect from this energy. You will be taught simple methods of “hands on” application for yourself and others. You will also have the opportunity to truly experience this gentle, loving and ancient energy by practicing on each other. Other Reiki volunteers and I will share how this wonderful energy has changed our lives and the profound impact it had on us. In the class you will be given a manual with a wealth of information in it along with a certificate.
Second degree dramatically increases the flow of energy. You learn the sacred science of how to do “absentee” healing, clear energy fields around you, . Second degree is quite powerful and you are more directly involved in sending and balancing energy fields around you. You will learn powerful ancient symbols that tie you into Universal energies which Dr. Usui re-discovered in the mid 1860's. These symbols of Light allow you to "transmit" higher energies to positively effect yourself and the reality around you. Experience the sacred knowledge and ability to send energy over long distances (absentee healing). In the past, very few initiates were allowed to take 2nd degree because of the state of consciousness needed to hold this energy in reverence. Today with the acceleration in the number of people ready for personal healing and balancing, the need to open Reiki energy to those who are carriers of light is more urgent than ever. Third degree (or mastership) allows you to attune others into Reiki. It is a very powerful step and only those who are committed to upholding the Reiki tradition go on to this level. For more information, contact me.

Reiki is one of the few healing techniques that does not require any special talents, exercises, meditation, prayer, or rituals to do it. Anyone can do it. As a matter of fact it doesn’t even require that you believe in it, it just works! In a class you will learn practical and powerful techniques that you can take and use in your everyday life
The Reiki energies allow you to bring healing, harmony, and balance to not only yourself but loved ones with this universal energy. Once you are initiated, you have it for life! Anyone can do it. Those who have experienced the initiation, describe it as "extra-ordinary", "Loving", "Phenomenal", "Powerful", "Undescribable", "Unbelievable", etc.....
